Why I’m hooked on AR.

I have been a fan of bicycling all my life.  Although I played many sports, bicycling is the one I never stopped doing.  I started mountain bike racing in Baja California in 1997 and still race today.

I heard about Adventure Racing in 2004.  I didn't think the sport was for me, but the sense of adventure was greater than my fear of getting lost.  I knew nothing about orienteering and had no friends who wanted to take the challenge.

But then luck knocked, and I hear of a night hike south of Ensenada which was going to take place and that two guys from California where going to be there, I was determined to pick there brains and try to learn as much as I could about Adventure Racing, orienteering and team work.  Those two guys where Barrie Adsett and Steve Moore.  I learned a lot that night, and with that basic knowledge I raced my fist Adventure Race in March 2005 in Sierra Blanca.  I finished in 2nd place.  Barrie has been a mentor and I am still learning from him.

Adventure racing is about muscular agony, pain, fear, limits, frustration, emotions, team work and joy.  It is about feeling alive.  It is about embracing life and adversity, but most important of all it is about friendship and having fun.
